10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for a lot of us. But it has to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of your home?
The outside of your house could likely use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your house in Mt. Pleasant, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and care that will save a lot of money in years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time of year to clean your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris collected during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and animals are searching for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t cause you too much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring job, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can clean your home, patio furniture, patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem silly since you will still be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really help it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it can be easy to overlook it during the winter since you are not doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in bad condition the first time you walk onto it in the spring.
Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or mildew, you may need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical roof problems in Mt. Pleasant. While you’re cleaning the outside of your house, it is a great time to clean your roof too, but you will need to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you start to see streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is typically obvious, too. These particles can’t be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your roof.
The best method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then let it sit. This mixture will eliminate any organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is probably what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and will even motivate you to spend more time outside.
Clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean overlooked areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You’ll probably be spending more time outside, so spring is an excellent time to organize the things you will need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have a specific area outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your house much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes make a major impact on the overall look of your house.
Remove weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you’ll be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You can probably finish all of these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Mt.
