METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been there and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum. After that we slide the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we do not use very high pressure because that will sometimes harm the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal service.
